Two people have died and a child has been airlifted to hospital after a horror crash on a WA highway on Monday morning.
The crash happened about 11.30am, when two cars collided on the North West Coastal Highway in Hamelin Pool, near Shark Bay on WA’s north coast.
One of the cars was towing a caravan, and the crash caused the caravan to roll.
Police confirmed two people had since died in the crash.
A 12-year-old passenger was airlifted by the Royal Flying Doctors Service to Perth for medical treatment, after reportedly suffering “critical injuries”.
RFDS officials worked with St John paramedics to treat other patients at the scene, with police confirming “several” had been injured during the crash.
Major Crash investigators are at the site, and are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Main Roads says congestion is heavy on the highway as emergency services work, and have closed the section between Overlander Roadhouse to Billabong Roadhouse.
