UFO hunters have been whipped into a frenzy after spotting what they believed to be an alien aircraft in a livestream from space.
The SpaceX Starship Flight 14 made history by reaching orbit for the first time, before deploying all 26 of its satellites.
A livestream of the orbital flight was shared by SpaceX, but a mysterious object in the background saw people flocking to social media to have their say.
The object – which appeared to be a slightly curved beam of light – could be seen around eight minutes into the stream, with one person writing on X: “They just livestreamed what looks like a ‘UFO mothership’ trailing Starship over Texas.”
Another added: “I think we all just saw a UFO live-streamed.”
A third mused: “Hey SpaceX what is this city sized craft orbiting the horizon?”
While someone else commented on X: “Remember what Elon Musk said about Aliens?
“He has said that with thousands of SpaceX satellites he would know if aliens were here, and that he would post the proof on X. The object sat on his own feed.”
Another wondered: “That object is moving real fast relative to Starship. Doesn’t seem like debris from the vehicle like the ice particles, what could this possibly be I wonder?”
Another comment came from Michael Salla, who wrote the Secret Space Programs Book, who wrote: “The first Starship sent into Earth orbit was trailed by a large UFO that some claim is a mothership.
“Given the importance of SpaceX rockets for the open-source expansion of space programs, the UFO may be part of the Solar Warden/United Earth Space Command welcoming its little brother to cislunar space.”
However, others argued the shape could have been caused by the rocket exhaust expanding in the thin atmosphere, or some space debris.
One “insisted: “It’s likely a hunk of ice that broke off the side of the ship or some propellant that leaked out the engines during the cutoff that froze in space.”
SpaceX and NASA have yet to comment on the footage, which has gone viral.
But NASA did comment on the launch on X, praising SpaceX as they wrote: “Gorgeous launch, getting the ship to orbit and managing every step in a safe, responsible, and especially inspirational way.”
