UFO whistleblower David Grusch has claimed American troops shot dead towering “reptilian” beings after encountering them beside a crashed UFO – while acknowledging the extraordinary account was relayed to him by another person rather than witnessed by him personally.

The former US intelligence officer made the claims during a lengthy appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience this week, in which he also alleged the existence of an enormous underwater facility linked to unidentified craft and said he had personally viewed high-definition footage purportedly showing recovered non-human bodies.

David became one of the best-known figures in the UFO disclosure movement after giving sworn evidence to Congress in 2023 about alleged secret US crash-retrieval programmes.

Speaking to Joe Rogan, David described what he said a colleague had told him about an alleged crash involving a “tic-tac”-shaped craft and different types of beings.

Asked about the creatures, David described what his source had allegedly reported as “seven-foot-tall-plus sort of gorilla-looking, scaly-skin” beings, adding there were “multiple types” of purported reptilians.

David claimed the surviving beings posed a danger to US personnel and there had been casualties during the encounter.

No independently verified evidence supporting the alleged confrontation has been made public.

The claims mark a significant escalation from the allegations David made under oath before a House Oversight subcommittee in July 2023.

At that hearing, David said his information was based on accounts from people he regarded as credible, telling Congress in his written statement that his testimony was based on “information I have been given” by current and former military and intelligence personnel.

He alleged the US government had concealed programmes involving recovered UAP material from congressional oversight.

The Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office has previously said its historical investigation found no empirical evidence that the US government or private companies possessed extraterrestrial spacecraft.

Its 2024 report concluded many historical UFO sightings were probably misidentifications of ordinary phenomena or secret US technology.

UAPs nevertheless remain an active subject of official investigation. AARO’s current database includes unresolved military sightings, although the office stresses “unresolved” does not mean extraterrestrial. Some cases have subsequently been attributed to objects including balloons and birds.

During his latest interview, David also claimed he had seen clear footage of dead beings recovered from a crash site, describing them as human-like with pale bluish-white skin.

He said the material showed a retrieval operation rather than close-up footage specifically filmed to document the bodies.

Asked whether such footage could eventually become public, David said: “Probably. There’s a lot of audio-visual stuff.

“The problem with the current climate is you’re going to have to wheel out the physical evidence, too, because the trust in government is so low right now.”

David also alleged officials were aware of a huge underwater “base of operations” associated with unidentified craft.

He said: “There’s clearly some sort of base of operations in certain locations. It’s large. Don’t know when it got there.”

Asked about its scale, David added: “Like multiple city blocks type stuff.”

He declined to identify a location, saying details concerning how the alleged facility was tracked involved sensitive naval and national-security information.

David said people he knew from the underwater intelligence community had compared the alleged phenomenon with James Cameron’s 1989 science-fiction film The Abyss, starring Ed Harris, which depicts the discovery of an advanced non-human civilisation deep beneath the ocean.

The claims come as US President Donald Trump and the US government continues to release and investigate UAP material.

AARO published its fiscal year 2025 consolidated annual report in July and maintains a system allowing current and former government personnel with direct knowledge of UAP-related programmes to submit information for investigation.
