UPSC has declared the results of the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, clearing the way for thousands of candidates to appear for the next stage of the recruitment process.
According to the commission, 13,343 candidates have qualified for the Civil Services Main Examination 2026 against 1,016 vacancies notified for this year’s recruitment cycle.
In comparison, 14,161 candidates had qualified for the Main Examination in 2025 against 1,087 vacancies.

The Commission has also informed candidates that the marks, cut-off scores and answer keys for the Preliminary Examination will be released only after the entire Civil Services Examination 2026 and Indian Forest Service Examination 2026 process concludes and the final results are declared.
The result has been published on the official UPSC website in PDF format. Candidates can check their qualifying status by searching for their roll numbers in the result document.
Candidates who have cleared the Preliminary Examination will now move to the Civil Services Main Examination, the second stage of the selection process for services such as IAS, IPS and IFS.
As per the UPSC examination calendar, the Civil Services Main Examination 2026 is scheduled to begin on August 21. Detailed instructions regarding the next stage are expected to be released separately by the commission.
Around 5.49 lakh candidates appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026, which was conducted on May 24 across the country.
Of them, 13,343 candidates have now qualified for the Main Examination, representing roughly 2.4 per cent of those who took the test.
NEXT STEP FOR QUALIFIED CANDIDATES
The UPSC has clarified that the candidature of all qualified candidates remains provisional.
Those shortlisted for the Civil Services (Main) Examination 2026 will have to complete several mandatory formalities through the Commission’s portal between June 19 and June 28.
During this period, candidates must submit the examination fee of Rs 200, unless exempted under categories such as women, SC, ST and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).
They will also be required to update details related to scribes, assistive devices and large-font question papers, where applicable, and fill in their cadre preferences for the Civil Services Examination.
The Commission has made it clear that all qualified candidates must log in to the portal and verify, update or reconfirm their details before finally submitting the application form.
Failure to do so will prevent the generation of the e-admit card and make candidates ineligible to appear for the Main Examination.
Even those who have already submitted the required information earlier must complete the verification and final submission process during the specified window.
