A Virgin Australia flight bound for Perth was forced to make an emergency landing after an engine issue was reported by airline crew.
Virgin Australia flight VA 697 departed Melbourne Airport about 6pm on Monday, circling the airport for about 45 minutes before touching back down.
“Virgin Australia flight VA697 to Perth returned to Melbourne Airport this evening after the crew reported an engine issue,” a Virgin Australia spokesman said.
Footage from Flight Radar showed the plane making a large circle of the city before returning to the airport.

The passengers were escorted off the Boeing 737-800 at about 6.50pm.
Fire and rescue were called to the scene as a precaution, but their services were not needed, a spokesman told NewsWire.
The plane will undergo evaluation and testing by Virgin Australia crew before it returns to service.
The passengers on-board the flight were eventually boarded onto another flight, which took off a few hours later and landed without incident.
