A 52-year-old man is in hospital after his car smashed into a shopfront in Perth’s CBD in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It is understood the car reversed into the front of the Travel Money store at the intersection of Hay Street and William Street, in the heart of the city, about 3.30am.

Police remain at the scene and the area is cordoned off as people begin to stream into the city on Thursday.

The 52-year-old man, who was the only person in the car, was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
