An Australian citizen who resides in Cambodia is expected to appear in Perth Magistrates Court today, charged with accessing child abuse material.
The AFP charged the man, 67, on June 19 after Australian Border Force officers intercepted him at Perth Airport following his arrival on an international flight.
Officers inspected the man’s mobile phones as part of a baggage examination and identified websites that had allegedly been accessed which contained child abuse material.
The matter was immediately referred to the AFP for investigation and charged.
He appeared in Northbridge Magistrates Court on June 20, where he was refused bail. He then appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on June 22, where he was granted bail to appear in court again today.

Making headlines, West Australian Opposition Leader Basil Zempilas says a more graphic road safety advertising campaign could grab the attention of the state’s drivers and raise awareness of the dangers on our roads.
The comments follow a recent spate of fatal incidents on WA roads, with 14 people losing their lives in the space of just two weeks.
By the end of last month, the state’s road toll had reached 127, tracking higher than the 121 deaths recorded during the same period in 2025 and the 101 fatalities by the same time in 2024.
