West Australia’s Gen Z has recorded the state’s lowest reading and maths competency scores in more than two decades.
The Program for International Student Assessment annual report card compares science, reading and maths skills for 15-year-old students across 91 countries, including Australia.
When compared to the rest of the world, Australia was above the OECD average in all three areas, finishing 10th in science, 11th in reading and 17th in maths.
In WA, students recorded a science competency score of 61 per cent – ranking it fourth in the nation.
