A terrifying home invasion in Warnbro has left two people with serious stab injuries and detectives hunting four masked people behind the “targeted” attack.
A man in his 40s was stabbed in his chest and abdomen after the group — armed with edged weapons including a knife, machete and an axe — forced their way into a Warnbro home on Currie street in the early hours of Monday.
It is understood the man fought back before he was stabbed. He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious condition.
A second man, who police say is aged in his 50s, was stabbed in his lower back. It is understood the man was also bashed.
Paramedics and police were called to the property around 2.25am Monday before the men were rushed to separate hospitals. They were discharged from RPH and Rockingham General Hospital later on Monday.
A neighbour, Muhammad Zia, told 7NEWS one of the men knocked on his door asking for help after the attack.
“He said he was lying on the couch. He was sleeping and someone stabbed him.”
“We heard the door knock, we opened the door, there was a guy outside – he said someone is trying to kill him and then he asked us to help him.
“I just called the cops.”
Police suspect the incident is linked to an earlier disturbance at the same home from 11pm on Saturday night, where “several people allegedly attempted to gain entry to the property and caused significant damage”.
CCTV released by police from Saturday night shows multiple people slowly approaching the Warnbro home wearing facial coverings. Police suspect these people were behind Monday’s home invasion.
WA Police said rapid apprehension squad detectives were searching for four people, who “had their faces covered” while arming themselves edged weapons on Monday.
“Detectives are investigating reports an altercation occurred inside the residence before the offenders fled the scene on foot a short time later,” a police statement said.
WA Police acting sergeant Elle Arthurs said she could not confirm or deny whether the incident was being investigated as an organised crime incident.
“We are still early in the investigation at this stage, and we can’t confirm or deny that,” she said.
“At this stage, the investigation is early, and we are yet to establish the motivation.
“I understand that incidents like this are distressing to the community, however, police can confirm this is a targeted incident, and we believe there is no ongoing threat to the wider community at this time.”
A/Sgt. Arthurs said the victims were assisting with inquiries as investigations were focused to the Warnbro area.
“Police are conducting inquiries in the Warnbro area — anyone with CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone, doorbell footage is urged to contact police.”
