Ranked No.32, Eala showed remarkable composure against the six-time Grand Slam champion. The opening set proved to be a gripping contest, with Eala saving two set points before edging the tie-break 11-9 after more than an hour of intense baseline exchanges. She then carried that momentum into the second set, racing to a 3-0 lead and never allowing Swiatek to regain control.

Swiatek, who arrived at Wimbledon as the defending champion and third seed, struggled to cope with Eala’s aggressive left-handed game and fearless shot-making. The Pole briefly threatened a comeback, but Eala stayed composed and sealed the match with a trademark crosscourt forehand winner, sparking emotional celebrations.

HISTORIC MILESTONE FOR EALA

The victory marked another historic milestone for Eala, who became the first Filipino player to reach the fourth round of a Grand Slam singles event. It also reinforced her reputation as one of the brightest young stars on the WTA Tour after her breakthrough season in 2025.

Speaking after the match, an emotional Eala admitted the occasion meant everything to her, having grown up dreaming of competing on Wimbledon’s biggest stage.

The youngster recalled her childhood training sessions in the Philippines with her brother and grandfather. She also expressed gratitude for sharing Centre Court with Iga Swiatek, adding that fulfilling her childhood dream left her overwhelmed with emotion.

“I don’t know how to describe it. I’ve been to the second week of a Grand Slam before, but this is amazing for me. Iga is a phenomenal player and a really nice person, so I’m really grateful to have shared Centre Court with her at Wimbledon,” Eala said.

“I’m really emotional. Maybe for someone like Iga, who has won so many Grand Slams,
