Three women wearing burqas posed as customers at a jewellery shop in Gujarat’s Surat and stole gold ornaments worth around Rs 7-8 lakh, with the entire incident captured on the shop’s CCTV camera.
The incident took place at New AK Jewellers on Monday when the three women entered the shop posing as customers, CCTV shows. They then select a set of jewellery and distract the shopkeeper by asking him to show them different ornaments.

The CCTV footage shows one of the women grabbing a gold ornament from a drawer and hiding it in her clothes after the shopkeeper steps away from the counter to check the jewellery. Before the theft, one of the women leaves the shop, while the other two flee after committing the robbery, before the shopkeeper returns, CCTV shows.
The shopkeeper realised the jewellery was missing only after the women had left, police said.
Following the theft, police reached the shop and launched an investigation based on the CCTV footage. They are searching for the three women.
Mahidharpura police station Inspector DU Bard said the women carried out the theft after diverting the shopkeeper’s attention. Police have taken the shopkeeper’s complaint and launched an investigation.
