Spoiler alert: Enter at your own risk! Hrithik Roshan crashes through a wall in Jailer 2, and we’re about to crash your spoiler-free bubble. Read on only if you’re ready to know what goes down!
Some cinematic moments are designed to make noise. Others carry a little history within them. Hrithik Roshan’s cameo in Jailer 2 manages to do both, bringing him alongside Rajinikanth in a reunion that feels like life coming full circle. From a spectacular, wall-smashing entry to a playful sunglasses flip, Hrithik’s appearance is packed with swagger. But beneath the spectacle is a warm tribute to a man who shared the screen with him when he was just 12 years old.

A massy entry, a little gratitude and a sunglasses flip
In Jailer 2, Rajinikanth’s Tiger Muthuvel Pandian finds himself in a tight spot, with Bodhi Kalpak (SJ Suryah) closing in. Even the support of his trusted allies — Narasimha (Shiva Rajkumar), Mathew (Mohanlal) and Kamdev (Jackie Shroff) — may not be enough to get him out of trouble. When Kamdev warns Tiger about the danger ahead, a phone call sets the stage for a new arrival.
Enter Roddy, played by Hrithik Roshan, who announces himself by driving straight through a wall to rescue Tiger. It is the kind of unapologetically over-the-top entrance that belongs in a Rajinikanth film, complete with the charm and confidence expected of a man who has arrived to turn the tide.
But Roddy’s first words to Tiger give the scene a more personal touch. He reminds him that he had helped him two decades earlier, a gesture he has never forgotten.
“You might have forgotten what you’ve done for me. I’ll never forget. Anytime, anything for you, sir,” Roddy says before kissing Tiger’s hand.
It is a brief exchange, but it lends the cameo an emotional undercurrent. Roddy may arrive as the man who can rescue Tiger from danger, but his gratitude makes it clear that this is also about repaying a debt.
And then comes the moment that feels like a little gift to Rajinikanth fans. Walking alongside the superstar, Hrithik flips his sunglasses in a clear nod to Rajinikanth’s iconic style. It is a playful gesture, one that lets the two actors share a moment of mass appeal while acknowledging the screen presence of the man beside him.
Later, when Tiger’s family is in danger, Roddy returns to the action. Sporting a workman’s jumpsuit, a bronzed look, a fresh hairstyle and piercings, Hrithik brings a striking new avatar to the role. The arrival has an almost Charlie’s Angels-like flourish, with Roddy leading a group of four women, including Bani, as they join the chaos.
For all the action and spectacle, however, the sunglasses flip remains one of the cameo’s most telling details. It is not merely a stylish flourish. It feels like Hrithik tipping his hat to one of the earliest teachers he had on a film set.
From Bhagwan Dada to Jailer 2: 40 years in the making
Long before he became one of Hindi cinema’s biggest stars, Hrithik shared screen space with Rajinikanth in Bhagwan Dada. He was just 12 when he played Govind, a young boy adopted by Rajinikanth’s titular character. The film also featured Hrithik’s father, actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan.
That early experience became part of Hrithik’s introduction to filmmaking. Four decades later, Jailer 2 brings the two actors together again, this time with Hrithik returning as an established star and Rajinikanth continuing to command the screen.
The reunion acquires an added layer of warmth when viewed alongside Hrithik’s memories of working with Rajinikanth as a child. At the trailer launch of The Roshans in January 2025, Hrithik recalled how little he understood the magnitude of sharing screen space with the superstar back then.
“I had no idea that I was standing with the greatest legend of all time. For me, he was Rajni uncle. I used to talk to him like, yeah, no… I had my way with him,” he said.
Hrithik also remembered Rajinikanth’s kindness on set, particularly when a shot did not go as planned.
“I will realise the burden and the weight of the moment that I am sharing screen space with him… He was so gentle and so giving. Whenever I messed up a shot, my grandfather used to cut the shot. And Rajni sir used to take the blame, saying, sorry, sorry, sorry. My fault,” he added.
The recollection offers a glimpse of the relationship behind the on-screen reunion. For a young Hrithik, Rajinikanth was someone he could speak to without fully appreciating his stature. Yet the kindness he experienced stayed with him long after that film.
By January 2025, Hrithik was already expressing a desire to work with Rajinikanth again, even before Jailer 2 went on floors. The sequel has now made that reunion possible, placing the two actors together in a film that gives their shared history a new context.
In Jailer 2, Roddy may be the man who arrives to save Tiger, but the cameo also feels like a full-circle moment for Hrithik. The boy who once played Rajinikanth’s adopted son now stands beside him as a star in his own right, matching his swagger and borrowing one of his most recognisable gestures.
The sunglasses flip lasts only a moment. The history behind it spans 40 years.
