School holiday chaos has erupted across Adelaide beaches, with footage capturing wild scenes of teens brawling and dozens of others running across busy streets.
Swarms of teenagers ran across Seaview Rd near Henley Beach to watch a fight at Henley Square on Tuesday afternoon.
A witness named Chris told FiveAAA there were large groups of people on the grassed areas at Henley Square, but as the afternoon progressed, he noticed teenagers mouthing off at each other.
“That mouthing off then turned into some pushing, and then all of a sudden, this large swarm of people – I’m talking like 50 or 100 people – just converge on this area outside of the Stella Restaurant,” he said.
“This boy has just been pushed to the ground, and he’s just being kicked and punched in the head in the sort of foetal position, and it wasn’t good at all.
“That incident then spread to the concrete area where the water fountain is and then also even spread to the road as well.
“There is traffic going on, and there are people just sort of completely disregarding the green light and just going across the road.
“I saw this around two or three times last summer as well, where towards the end of the day, people have been out in the sun and they’re hot, and you know their general tolerance level is probably a little bit lower.
“It just takes a quite a small incident for these you know mass brawls to happen, and they’re not one-on-one fights; they’re sort of one-on-10 fights.
“It wouldn’t take too much for a concussion or quite a serious brain injury to be a result of these incidents.”
Separate footage shows teens fighting at Glenelg Beach while dozens of others watch on.
Following the incidents, SA Police have brought forward Operation Jericho, which takes place each year to address crime, public disorder and road safety along Adelaide’s coastline during summer.
Acting Assistant Commissioner David O’Donovan said police were investigating reports of fighting at Glenelg Beach and Henley Beach and officers were reviewing social media to identify the culprits and level of organisation behind the incidents.
“Adequate police resources were deployed along the metropolitan foreshore yesterday because of the warmer weather and increased numbers of people attending these locations,” he said.
“As a result of this, police rapidly attended Henley Square after receiving reports of an affray, but because of the nature of the incidents, the majority of the crowd that had gathered had dispersed.
“Investigations indicate there are a small number of individuals involved in fighting activity, with the majority of the young people attending as spectators after being alerted to the activity on social media.
“Police have had no reports of any assaults or injuries as a result of the incidents.”
Police urged anyone with information about the people involved in Tuesday’s incidents to contact Crime Stoppers.
