The Zodiac slows as King George River narrows. Red sandstone walls rise on both sides, weathered into ledges and deep vertical seams. At the head of the gorge, twin streams drop from the clifftop at King George Falls.
Expedition guides scan the waterline for saltwater crocodiles as birdlife moves across the gorge overhead. King George Falls comes partway through My Cruises’ Ultra Luxury Kimberley Coast Adventure, Silversea’s 14-night pairing of one night in Broome, 10 aboard Silver Cloud and three in Darwin.

Tides and islands
The Buccaneer Archipelago fills the first two expedition days, with hundreds of islands rising from blue-green water. Huge tides force water between two narrow gaps in the McLarty Range at Garaan-ngaddim, known as Horizontal Falls, creating a sideways waterfall. Silver Cloud stays overnight in the region so expedition activities can work around the tides.
Zodiacs spend two more days winding along Hunter River’s mangrove channels below red sandstone cliffs, saltwater crocodiles on the muddy banks and birdlife overhead, before Naturalist Island’s long sandy beach marks the river mouth. An optional helicopter flight* gives an aerial view of Mitchell Falls’ four tiers and the surrounding plateau.
Ancient and alive
About 100,000 seabirds breed each year on Ashmore Reef’s three tiny islands, green turtles nest on the sand nearby, dugongs feed in the seagrass meadows and hard and soft corals, giant clams and about 500 fish species live below the surface.
Guides at Vansittart Bay explain the cultural significance of the ancient Indigenous rock art here, and onboard lectures add context on the geology and wildlife seen throughout the voyage. For freshwater crocodiles, fruit bats and short-eared rock wallaby spotting, join the optional Ord River cruise* at Wyndham.
Suite life
Silver Cloud carries 254 guests and 212 crew, with 20 Zodiacs available for expedition outings. The included 22-square-metre Vista Suite has a queen bed, a sitting area and a large picture window that keeps the red cliffs in view at anchor. Every suite comes with a personal butler, champagne on arrival and a minibar replenished daily.
Dining and drinks run open throughout the voyage, with a choice of four restaurants or the 24-hour room service menu for dinner in the suite instead. The final day at sea leaves time for the pool deck, the Observation Lounge or a treatment at Zagara Beauty Spa*.

After disembarking, three nights in a central Darwin hotel include breakfast each morning, with time to arrange your own sightseeing at Crocosaurus Cove, the Wave Lagoon or the Defence of Darwin Experience before the flight home.
