Noida International Airport, inaugurated nearly 5 months ago, was left waterlogged after heavy rain in Greater Noida on Tuesday, raising questions over its drainage infrastructure.

Water accumulated on the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area at the Jewar airport, causing inconvenience to passengers and people at the airport.

A video showing water accumulated near the parking area has surfaced on social media and is rapidly going viral. The footage shows a significant amount of water near the parking area, while airport staff can be seen working to drain it.

Noida International Airport said extremely heavy rainfall over a short period caused rainwater to enter the passage connecting the terminal with the parking area. The airport authority added that teams responded promptly and cleared the water in under 30 minutes.

During this period, traffic was rerouted through an alternate route, while passengers could be picked up directly at the kerb. The airport said the incident had minimal impact on operations and that no flights were disrupted.

The airport said vehicle and passenger movement between the terminal and parking area returned to normal after the water was cleared. Its teams continued to monitor the weather conditions and remained prepared to ensure smooth passenger movement.

The airport management also said it was looking into the incident and would take corrective action wherever required.

WILL BOATS RUN AT AIRPORT: AKHILESH YADAV

The waterlogging drew political reactions on social media, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav taking a swipe at the BJP government.

Yadav posted on X: “Will boats now run at the airport? Wherever there is a BJP government, there is massive corruption!”

The incident has also triggered public questions on social media over the airport’s water drainage arrangements.

An X user reacted to the waterlogging video and called it the “terrifying, untold inside story” of the Noida International Airport at Jewar.

Another user on X reacted sarcastically to the incident, saying, “People just don’t want to see development.” The user said, “This isn’t corruption, it’s a facility,” and sarcastically described the water accumulation as a “swimming pool” at Noida International Airport. The user added that it was meant for people who come to drop off passengers so they could take a dip and enjoy themselves.

AIRPORT OPENED FOR OPERATIONS IN JUNE

The Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, has emerged as a major new hub for air connectivity in the Delhi-NCR region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the airport on March 28, 2026.

The first phase of the airport was developed with an investment of around Rs 11,200 crore under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. It includes the modern terminal, runway and other essential aviation infrastructure.
