A woman has allegedly been raped and assaulted by a stranger as she went on a morning walk in a outer western suburb of Brisbane.

Police allege the woman in her 20s had been walking along Brookfield Road near the Brookfield Road bridge at about 6.30am on Thursday when she was “stopped by an unknown man and assaulted”.

Detectives eventually found a 32-year-old man from Raceview, a suburb nearly 40km away, on Moons Lane, not far from where the alleged assault took place.

The man was arrested and charged with six counts of rape and one count each of stalking, assault with intent to commit rape, assault occasioning bodily harm, and deprivation of liberty.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates court on Friday.

In response to the incident, specialist police patrols have been deployed throughout the Brookfield area “to ensure community safety over the coming days”.

Investigations are ongoing.
