A Logan woman is behind bars after police uncovered an alleged cash-for-demerit-points scheme that placed 1150 points against her licence over four years.
The 27-year-old Woodridge local had 1266 traffic infringement notices transferred to her name, police said, totalling about $620,000 in fines spanning back to 2022.
Officers said she had advertised the fraudulent scheme on social media.
In the alleged scheme, drivers who received fines but did not want to have demerit points applied to their licence paid the woman, who then had the infringement transferred to her name.
Queensland police’s financial and cyber crime group commander, Detective Superintendent Craig McGrath, said the alleged illegal business jeopardised road safety in the state.
“Many of those allegedly using these services should have had their licences suspended but were instead able to continue driving on our roads,” McGrath said.
The 27-year-old was charged with one count of fraud.
She was remanded in custody and was expected to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on September 28.
McGrath said anyone who had been involved in the alleged scheme could “expect to be identified and prosecuted”.
