A 45-year-old woman was killed in Pune and at least 42 Govindas were injured in Mumbai and Thane during Dahi Handi celebrations, officials said on Saturday.
Salma Salauddin Pathan died after a temporary iron structure supporting loudspeakers collapsed on her in Pune, while the Govindas were injured while forming human pyramids at events in Mumbai and Thane.

WOMAN CRUSHED UNDER IRON FRAME IN PUNE
The incident occurred in the Old Sangavi area of Pimpri Chinchwad on Friday night after a Dahi Handi event organised by the Vighnaharta Mandal.
Police said workers were dismantling the iron structure erected to support a stack of loudspeakers when a heavy portion fell on Pathan.
She suffered a serious head injury and was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Pathan’s son was an office-bearer of the organising mandal, police said. Her family declined to file a complaint against the organisers and requested that the police not register a case on their own.
Police have registered an accidental death report and are investigating what caused the structure to collapse.
The incident comes amid a debate in Pune over the use of high-decibel sound systems, commonly called DJs, during festivals.
32 GOVINDAS INJURED IN MUMBAI
In Mumbai, 32 Govindas were injured during the celebrations, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Of the 29 participants taken to hospitals, 25 were discharged after treatment, while four remained under medical care.
The BMC had kept more than 100 beds ready across 16 suburban civic hospitals and three major facilities: Sion Hospital, KEM Hospital in Parel and Nair Hospital in Mumbai Central.
Police also deployed additional personnel across Mumbai, particularly in sensitive areas, to maintain security during the celebrations.
10 HURT IN THANE
Ten Govindas were admitted to hospitals in neighbouring Thane.
Four were treated at the civic-run Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital for injuries to the back, neck and head. Six others were admitted to the District Government Hospital with fractures and other injuries.
Dahi Handi is celebrated as part of Janmashtami, which marks the birth of Lord Krishna. Participants form multi-tier human pyramids to break clay pots filled with curd and suspended above the ground.
Events organised by politicians and local groups across Mumbai and neighbouring areas have grown into major attractions, featuring large prizes, celebrity appearances and entertainment programmes.
