A worker has lost their hand after being seriously injured using machinery at a mining manufacturing workshop.

The West Australian reports the worker at CSI Mining Services Kwinana was using a lathe when the incident occurred.

The facility is owned by Mineral Resources – who confirmed a serious work-related incident occurred at the workshop in Perth’s south on Friday morning.

Operations were shutdown at the site following the incident and reopened on Monday

“Ambulances attended and the incident was reported to WorkSafe WA,” a MinRes spokesman said.

“Our immediate concern is for the injured employee, and our focus is on supporting them, their family and colleagues.

“As the incident is subject to an ongoing investigation, there is no further comment at this time.

WorkSafeWA confirmed they were investigating after a worker suffered serious hand injuries.

“Investigators attended and secured the scene and are continuing to make preliminary inquiries into the incident,” a spokesman said.
