Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday pitched the state as a growing destination for Japanese investment, highlighting its manufacturing base, infrastructure and skilled workforce as he invited companies from the country to consider Uttar Pradesh their “second home”.

Addressing the UP-Japan Investment Meet, Adityanath said the partnership between Uttar Pradesh and Japan was growing across sectors, from automobiles to advanced manufacturing. He also highlighted the shared cultural heritage between India and Japan, particularly through Buddhism.

The chief minister said a dedicated Japan City was being developed in Uttar Pradesh as the state worked to strengthen its ties with Japanese industry. He said the state was also pushing ahead with semiconductor, data centre and electronics manufacturing units.

Investment commitments worth Rs 2,000 crore were announced at the event, Adityanath said, adding that they were expected to generate significant employment. A new facility with the capacity to produce 60,000 tractors annually was also announced.

UP’S INVESTMENT PITCH

Highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s economic and industrial base, Adityanath said the state was now among India’s top three economies by state GDP. It has more than 96 lakh MSME units and over 22,000 startups, along with 36 sectoral policies covering areas including textiles, automobiles, electronics, fintech, medtech, defence manufacturing and tourism.

He said Uttar Pradesh accounted for 55% of India’s mobile phone production.

The state also spans nine climatic zones and contributes 21% of the country’s food grain production, he said.

Adityanath highlighted the development of multimodal logistics corridors and data centres, while pointing to infrastructure projects such as the Bundelkhand and Purvanchal Expressways. Under the state’s Ease of Doing Business drive, he said, both expressways were completed ahead of schedule and at less than the estimated cost.

An EV bus manufacturing plant and a defence manufacturing hub were also in progress, he said.

FROM HYDROGEN TO JAPANESE WORK ETHICS

The chief minister said two Hydrogen Centres of Excellence were being established as Uttar Pradesh expanded its presence across new sectors.

He also highlighted the state’s large youth workforce, describing it as talented and skilled, and said Uttar Pradesh wanted to introduce young workers to Japanese work ethics.

Adityanath said the state offered investors scale, skill, market access, infrastructure, ambition and law and order.

Drawing a cultural comparison, he described Japan as the “Land of the Rising Sun” and Uttar Pradesh as the land of the Suryavanshi — Ram, Vishnu and opportunity.

Noting Japan’s reputation for product quality and long-term thinking, Adityanath invited Japanese companies to consider Uttar Pradesh their “second home”. He also welcomed JETRO’s participation in furthering the state’s growth and investment opportunities.
