Both had a habit of consuming alcohol, and Anandi would often leave the house, leading to frequent arguments between the couple.
Family members had previously tried to reconcile them, but the disputes continued.
On the day of the incident, Anandi returned home around 5 am, following which an argument broke out between the couple over several issues, including her drinking habit.
During the argument, Waghmare struck Anandi on the head and stomach with a stick. She died on the spot.
After the murder, Waghmare tried to destroy evidence by hiding the blood-stained clothes.
When their son, Praveen, came home, the accused told him, “Your mother is not waking up.”
Upon finding her dead, Praveen immediately informed the police, following which a case was registered and Waghmare arrested..
During the investigation, police took Waghmare to the spot to reconstruct the incident.
Police said Waghmare told them that after killing his wife, he burned her blood-stained clothes. Investigators collected necessary samples from the spot where the clothes were burned.
