A German lawmaker’s fiery comeback to a far-right MP during a parliamentary debate on women’s rights has resurfaced online months later, turning a brief exchange in the Bundestag into one of social media’s most talked-about political moments.
The viral clip dates back to a March debate in the Bundestag, Germany’s federal parliament, during a discussion on women’s rights and violence against women. Kathi Gebel, a 29-year-old lawmaker from the left-wing Die Linke party and the party’s spokesperson on women’s policy, was criticising motions proposed by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) when she was interrupted by AfD MP Martin Reichardt.

Gebel shot back, saying: “The clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you are still more sensitive. To get to that point is quite something!”
Her remark caught the chamber off guard. Some lawmakers burst into laughter while others appeared visibly stunned. Cameras captured Reichardt looking bewildered as Gebel resumed her speech.
CLIP RETURNS TO THE SPOTLIGHT
Although the exchange took place months ago, it recently gained fresh attention after Gebel reposted the video on Instagram, where she describes herself as “Your ‘Riot Barbie’ in the Bundestag.”
The clip quickly spread across social media, drawing thousands of reactions. Many users praised Gebel’s quick wit and confidence, while others debated whether such rhetoric belonged in parliament.
“You really have to be intelligent to say something like that off the cuff. Spot on,” one Instagram user wrote.
Another commented: “Him being so offended and not able to really wrap his brain around what was said is the best thing this year so far.”
A third user wrote: “The way she explained it to him as she would a five-year-old child.”
GEBEL LATER CORRECTED THE SCIENCE
The viral moment took another turn when Gebel uploaded a follow-up video admitting that one part of her remark was scientifically inaccurate.
“I have to apologize, because the other day in the Bundestag I talked sh*t,” she said.
She explained that she had misstated the number of nerve endings in the clitoris.
“The clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings. It has 10,000. And I said 8,000. So I have to correct that.”
Gebel said she wanted to set the record straight and shared links to scientific research and medical journals, including studies published on PubMed, showing that the clitoris contains more than 10,000 nerve fibres.
Despite correcting the anatomical detail, she stood by the essence of her criticism.
“But the core message remains: “‘Mr. Reichardt — the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings and you are still more sensitive.’ You really have to pull that off. If you’re already submitting such a crap motion, you should at least be able to take the criticism for it.”
WHO IS KATHI GEBEL?
Gebel has built a reputation in German politics as an outspoken advocate for women’s rights. A psychology graduate and member of Die Linke, she serves as the party’s spokesperson on women’s policy and frequently speaks on issues including gender equality and violence against women.
She has previously drawn attention for condemning victim-blaming in sexual assault cases.
“Her skirt is not too short, her outfit is not too trashy, and if someone sees it differently, then maybe they are just a perverted jerk,” she said in another widely shared parliamentary speech.
