The skeletal remains of a 57-year-old woman, believed to have died nearly a year ago, were found inside her home in Bengaluru, where she had been living alone for several years.
The deceased was identified as Dakshayani, a resident of Havanur Layout near Nagasandra.
Police suspect her death may have gone unnoticed for months because she lived alone, and her prolonged absence did not immediately raise alarm among neighbours.

The case came to light on Friday after a neighbour noticed a foul smell near the house and alerted the police helpline.
Police reached the residence and discovered Dakshayani’s skeletal remains inside.
An unnatural death report under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has been registered based on a complaint filed by her younger brother, Mahesh Basappa Goravanakolla.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding her death and how it remained undetected for such a long period.
