Hyderabad: If you’ve ever had a suspicion of paying less than you could have hoped for a petrol bunk, it could be because the Legal Metrology Department has booked several stores here for precisely that. According to a Right to Information (RTI ) keyword, Hyderabad and over 21000 Telangana have been charged for charging extra energy in Hyderabad and over 8341 Telangana between 2020 and 2025.
The advocate Robin Zaccheus filed the information obtained from the RTI concerns with the Legal Metrology Department. For the years 2020 to 2025 (up to June ), data was sought for the towns of Hyderabad, Nizamabad, and Nalgonda. In those three regions, the ministry has booked 21718 jobs full, exposing the serious frauds occurring at Petro Pumps in Hyderabad and abroad.
Great revenue is made up of fines issued at gas stations
The Legal Metrology Department has been fined a lot for the scams occurring at gas stations, according to Robin’s RTI information. The department has collected over Rupees 5 crore from Hyderabad, Rs 3. 66 million from Nizamabad, and Rupees 4. 66 million from Nalgonda regions, both of whom are classified as “excessive value” and” short weighment” ( lesser amount of fuel given in lieu of full quantity ).
Robin responded to what the data revealed by saying that it has “blown the cover off huge fuel dispensing frauds.” In addition, according to the RTI data, Nalgonda region even recorded 285 little weighment situations at all of the main gas stations, including Bharat Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum, and Reliance, in 2024 and 2022.
” Severe circumstances occur annually in the Hyderabad and Nizamabad regions. The department collects millions in compounding fees regularly, which cause thousands of consumers to be defrauded. But, the crooks continue uninterrupted. He rebuffed the State of Telangana and the Legal Metrology Department’s recommendation to quickly establish a statewide wonder attack pull at all fuel stations.
In order to prevent fraud at petrol stations in Hyderabad and other locations, the activist even suggested the government install tamper-proof online weighing devices with life public display. He further stated that repeat offenders ‘ licenses may be revoked and that regular zone-wise scams reports should be made available to the public.
