For lakhs of government employees and pensioners, the 8th Pay Commission is slowly becoming more than just a government announcement. It could eventually decide how much they earn, what allowances they receive and how their pensions are revised.
The Commission has been travelling across the country to hear directly from employees, unions and pensioner organisations. After consultations in Delhi, West Bengal, Ladakh and Uttar Pradesh, it is now heading to Bengaluru.

The 8th Pay Commission will visit Bengaluru on October 7 and 8, 2026. The visit will give central government employees’ associations, unions, organisations and other stakeholders an opportunity to meet the Commission and put forward their concerns.
According to the latest notification from the Ministry of Finance, interested organisations can request an appointment with the Commission. The request has to be submitted by September 18, 2026, along with the Unique Memo ID generated after submitting their memorandum.
The venue and detailed schedule of the meetings will be shared later.
WHY THE BENGALURU VISIT MATTERS
Pay Commissions are set up to review the salaries, allowances and other service-related benefits of government employees. Their recommendations can also have a direct impact on pensions and retirement benefits.
This is why every round of consultations attracts considerable interest from employees and pensioners.
The Commission’s meetings with different groups are also important because employees working in different departments and locations may have very different concerns. While some may be seeking changes in salary and allowances, others may have issues related to promotions, working conditions or retirement benefits.
The Bengaluru consultation will give these groups another opportunity to put their demands before the Commission.
WHAT ARE GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES EXPECTING?
For serving government employees, the biggest expectation is naturally a substantial increase in basic pay.
The fitment factor has become one of the most discussed issues around the 8th Pay Commission. It will play an important role in deciding how existing basic pay is converted into the revised pay under the new structure.
There has been speculation about different fitment factors and possible salary increases, but employees should remember that these are not final figures. The actual increase will only become clear once the Commission submits its recommendations and the government takes a final decision.
WHEN WILL EMPLOYEES ACTUALLY GET THE REVISED SALARY?
This is where employees will need to be patient.
The Bengaluru meetings do not mean that salaries will immediately increase. The Commission first has to complete its consultations, study the representations received from employees and pensioners, assess the financial impact and then prepare its recommendations.
The government will subsequently examine those recommendations before taking a final decision.
Therefore, the fitment factor, minimum basic pay, allowances and pension revision figures being discussed currently should be treated as expectations or demands, not confirmed numbers.
In other words, the Bengaluru visit is another step in a consultation process that could shape the next pay structure for central government employees and pensioners.
