Senior IPS officer and former Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha has been appointed as the next Director General (DG) of Delhi Home Guards, according to an official order issued by the Delhi government.

Golcha, a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IPS officer, will formally assume charge as DG Home Guards on October 1, 2026, following the retirement of incumbent chief Virender Singh on September 30.

Until then, Golcha has been posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Directorate of Home Guards. During this interim period, his salary and service position will continue to be maintained through the Delhi Police establishment, the order said.

The appointment marks a new assignment for the veteran officer, who served as Delhi Police Commissioner until July this year. He had taken over as the city’s top cop in August 2025 and was succeeded by IPS officer Anurag Kumar last month.

Before heading the Delhi Police, Golcha served as Director General of Tihar Prisons and held several key policing and administrative positions during his career in the national capital.

The transition comes as Virender Singh, a 1991-batch IPS officer, prepares to retire after leading the Directorate of Home Guards.

The Delhi Home Guards play a crucial supporting role in assisting the police and civil administration. The force is regularly deployed for law-and-order duties, traffic management, crowd control, emergency response and disaster-relief operations.

With his appointment, Golcha is set to oversee one of the capital’s key auxiliary forces, which works alongside the Delhi Police during major public events, security deployments and crisis situations.
