After years of scrutiny over examination security, technology, transparency and operational lapses, the National Testing Agency, NTA, is now moving towards a significant institutional overhaul. The agency has opened a string of professional positions, from cybersecurity and vigilance to test-centre operations, research, data analysis and communications, with applications invited for several roles until August 21, 2026.
NTA, which conducts major exams such as JEE (Main), NEET (UG), CUET and UGC-NET, is seeking experienced professionals, researchers and young talent through its new recruitment drive, “BUILD NEW NTA”.

The move comes amid renewed scrutiny following the NEET-UG controversy and the NTA’s decision to cancel and re-conduct the May 3 exam. Against this backdrop, the “BUILD NEW NTA” drive aims to strengthen examination security and advance institutional reforms.
A NEW NTA NEEDS A NEW TEAM
NTA’s latest recruitment drive is notable because of the breadth of expertise it is seeking. The agency has advertised four General Manager-level positions on contract for an initial three-year term, covering Assessment, Research & Development and Psychometrics; Test Centre Network & Operations; Information Security, with the General Manager serving as Chief Information Security Officer; and Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics.
These are not routine administrative appointments.
The General Manager for Test Centre Network & Operations (GM-TCNO) will oversee NTA’s nationwide test-centre network, including standards, capacity planning, empanelment and quality across more than 500 cities and select international locations.
The General Manager for Information Security (CISO) will lead cybersecurity, while the General Manager for Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics (GM-VIF) will focus on internal vigilance, investigations and digital forensics.
In other words, NTA is recruiting not merely people to administer examinations, but specialists who will be expected to protect the examination ecosystem itself.
FROM PAPER LEAKS TO CYBERSECURITY: WHY THESE POSTS MATTER
The timing of the recruitment is significant. The examination crisis exposed vulnerabilities in question-paper security, test-centre management, technology and communication.
NTA’s new organisational structure appears aimed at addressing these gaps. The Information Security/CISO role will strengthen cybersecurity, Vigilance, Investigation & Forensics will focus on investigations and digital evidence, while Test Centre Network & Operations will oversee the nationwide exam infrastructure.
Together, these roles point to a broader effort to strengthen examination security across technology, centres, logistics and oversight.
NTA IS ALSO BUILDING AN ‘EVIDENCE’ AND DATA FUNCTION
The recruitment drive extends beyond security. NTA is also seeking a Researcher to develop a rigorous, citable research function, strengthening the evidence base for its communications, campaigns and leadership initiatives.
For an organisation responsible for examinations taken by millions of candidates, that could prove particularly important.
The agency is also seeking a Data Analyst-cum-Media Monitoring Executive to turn information from media coverage, public sentiment and emerging issues into decision-ready intelligence during examination cycles.
That suggests a shift towards a more data-driven communications operation, one that does not merely respond to a controversy after it explodes but attempts to identify emerging issues early.
THE ‘VOICE’ OF NTA IS ALSO BEING REBUILT
Interestingly, NTA’s rebuild also extends to communications. The agency is hiring an English Content Writer at its New Delhi headquarters, seeking candidates with relevant qualifications and at least three years of writing or editing experience.
The role focuses on clear writing, editing, proofreading, storytelling and coordination with Hindi-language teams. For an agency serving millions of students and parents, effective communication can be as important as examination systems in preventing confusion and building trust.
NTA is also recruiting a Video Editor-cum-Graphic Designer to strengthen its visual communication and outreach.
16 YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO JOIN THE ‘NEW NTA’
The recruitment is not restricted to senior executives. NTA has also opened positions for 16 Young Professionals through the UPSC’s Pratibha Setu portal, marking the first such engagement by the agency. The roles include opportunities in areas such as academic research, legal research, finance and accounts, with relevant postgraduate or professional qualifications preferred.
This creates an interesting mix: experienced professionals at the top, specialist functions in the middle and younger researchers entering the organisation.
AUGUST 21 IS THE KEY DEADLINE
For candidates interested in the newly announced positions, August 21, 2026 is the important deadline mentioned in the recruitment campaign for the advertised opportunities.
The remuneration for the professional positions is being offered in line with industry standards and the candidate’s experience, according to NTA’s recruitment messaging.
Interested applicants should check the specific eligibility criteria and application instructions for the role they are targeting through NTA’s official recruitment notices.
WHY “BUILD NEW NTA” COULD BE MORE THAN A SLOGAN
For years, NTA has faced the challenge of managing examinations at a massive scale while keeping pace with technological, logistical and security demands.
Its latest recruitment drive offers a possible answer by bringing specialised talent into key areas: cybersecurity, test-centre operations, vigilance, research, data analysis and communications.
“BUILD NEW NTA” is therefore more than a hiring exercise. It is an attempt to strengthen systems, improve accountability and rebuild trust in the agency. For millions of students, the success of this effort could matter far beyond the recruitment notices.
