A party switch has blown open a bitter family feud in Congress MP Imran Masood’s household. His nephew has accused the MP’s son-in-law, Shayan Masood, of assaulting his wife, Subiya, and throwing her out of their home.

Subiya is Masood’s daughter. The allegations erupted days after Shayan quit the Congress and joined the Samajwadi Party.

In a Facebook Live session on Saturday, Hamza Noman Masood accused Shayan and his father, Shadan Masood, of assaulting and verbally abusing Subiya before throwing her out of the house.

Hamza claimed that the family had remained silent for nearly five years to protect its relationships and reputation. He alleged that Subiya had been harassed because of political differences.

He also claimed that the family possessed recordings of private conversations and other alleged incidents. Hamza warned that he could release the recordings and videos if the dispute continued.

“The family has tolerated several things silently for nearly five years because of relationships and respect,” Hamza said.

He added that the Masood family would now take responsibility for Subiya and her infant. He accused Shayan of failing to provide for the child’s basic needs, claiming that he had not even paid for diapers.

Hamza also said that while his father was critically ill in hospital, even political rivals had called to enquire about his health. His own relatives, however, were involved in political activities against the family, he alleged.

In another serious claim, Hamza said he possessed recordings of conversations that allegedly discussed “getting rid of” him and Imran Masood. The allegations have not been independently verified.

Hamza said he had avoided speaking publicly to protect the family’s reputation but was forced to respond because of continuing statements against them.

“Subiya is not alone. The public will decide who deserves justice,” he said.

SHAYAN RESPONDS

Responding to Hamza, Shayan objected to private family matters being discussed publicly and challenged him to confront him politically.

“If you want to fight a political battle, come into the field and fight. Private family matters should not be made public to escalate the dispute,” Shayan said.

He claimed that he had answers to the allegations but did not want to disclose private family matters. He said he was prepared to respond to every charge if the two sides discussed the matter privately.

POLITICAL RIFT TURNS PERSONAL

Shayan left the Congress and joined the Samajwadi Party on August 20. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav inducted him into the party in Lucknow.

After joining the SP, Shayan publicly questioned his father-in-law’s political position. He said he disagreed with Imran Masood’s approach and argued that supporting Akhilesh Yadav was necessary to defeat the BJP.

The political disagreement has now spilled into the family, with serious allegations involving Masood’s daughter being aired on social media.
