Director Priyadarshan’s Hindi remake of the Malayalam film Oppam, titled Haiwaan collected Rs 3 crore nett in India on its opening day. The crime thriller featuring actors Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles was released on September 11, 2026.

Haiwaan recorded an overall occupancy of 11% across 7,224 shows on day 1, as reported by box office tracker Sacnilk. The film registered around 5% occupancy in the morning, over 12% during the afternoon and evening shows, and over 18% at night, the report mentioned.

With an estimated India gross of Rs 3.60 crore and another Rs 1 crore gross from overseas markets, Haiwaan currently stands at an estimated worldwide gross of Rs 4.60 crore after Day 1.

The opening is significantly below expectations for a film headlined by two major Bollywood stars, particularly given that it marks Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan‘s on-screen reunion after 17 years.

The opening also places Haiwaan among the lower Day 1 performers in the filmographies of both its leading men. For Akshay, the reported Rs 3.60 crore India gross is below the opening-day collection of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, which earned around Rs 3.88 crore nett on its first day in 2007, according to box office tracker Sacnilk.

For Saif Ali Khan, the film’s opening is broadly in the range of Ta Ra Rum Pum, which recorded a first-day collection of approximately Rs 3.50 crore nett in 2007, as per Sacnilk.

One of the biggest challenges for Haiwaan is the dominant box-office run of Hanuman Ansh, which continues to cast a long shadow over new releases. Even after 36 days in theatres, the devotional drama has maintained an exceptional hold, proving to be a formidable competitor. According to box office tracker Sacnilk, Hanuman Ansh collected an impressive Rs 10.50 crore nett on its sixth Friday and Rs 0.39 crore on Saturday, taking its total India nett collection to an estimated Rs 174.02 crore.

Haiwaan is also feeling the heat from Mirzapur: The Movie, which continues its steady theatrical run in its second week. As Sacnilk, the film added an estimated Rs 9 crore nett to its tally on its second Friday. It collected Rs 21 crore nett on Saturday pushing its India gross collections to Rs 187.80 crore and total India nett to Rs 157.66 crore so far, with India final collections yet to be reported.

Haiwaan also marks the final film appearance of veteran actor Asrani, who passed away in 2025. Co-written and directed by Priyadarshan, the film is produced by KVN Productions and Thespian Films. It is an official remake of Priyadarshan’s own 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam, which featured Mohanlal and Samuthirakani.

Haiwaan also features Boman Irani, Shriya Pilgaonkar, and Saiyami Kher in key roles, alongside a cameo appearance by Mohanlal. The songs have been composed by Pritam, with the background score by Ronnie Raphael.
