A 65-year-old woman was killed with a sharp-edged weapon following a dispute over farmland in Uttarakhand’s Almora district, police said.

The incident took place in Ratkhet Basai village in the Syalde development block. According to police, an argument over fields and agricultural plots escalated after an exchange of abuses, following which the accused allegedly attacked the woman with a sharp weapon.

Police from Deghat reached the spot after receiving information and rushed the injured woman to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The police arrested the named accused, 75-year-old Raj Singh alias ‘Raja Babu’, within hours of the incident. A sickle allegedly used in the killing was also recovered based on information provided by him, police said.

During questioning, the accused told police that a dispute over fields and agricultural plots located in front of his house had been continuing for around four years between him and the victim, Tulsi Devi, and her family. The dispute frequently led to arguments and verbal abuse between the two sides, according to police.

On September 19, another argument broke out between them. Police said the confrontation escalated, with the accused allegedly attacking Tulsi Devi with an iron sickle, causing fatal injuries.

Further investigation into the case is underway.
