As discussions around Karuppu and its reported connection to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay continue online, actor Suriya shared a cryptic note on social media that quickly caught fans’ attention. Without naming anyone or addressing the controversy directly, the actor posted a note on Instagram Stories that many viewed as a call for calm amid the ongoing debate.
On Thursday, Suriya shared a simple message that read: “Lead with love. Stay kind. Stay generous.”
While the actor did not refer to any individual or incident, the post arrived at a time when members of the Karuppu team were facing criticism over comments linking the film to Vijay.

When RJ Balaji said Karuppu was meant to be Vijay’s final film
The discussion began after director RJ Balaji revealed that Karuppu had initially been narrated to Vijay before eventually taking shape with Suriya in the lead role.
Speaking to THR India, Balaji recalled his interaction with Vijay and said he respected the actor-politician’s decision not to take up the project.
“I felt his reasons were justified. I told him, ‘Sir, I absolutely respect your decision. Thank you so much.’ By then, I had already narrated two stories to him after he asked me if I had something suitable. I considered that itself a huge sign of respect for my work and creativity,” Balaji said.
The conversation gained further traction after Balaji met Vijay following his electoral victory and shared a photograph from the meeting on X. In the post, he described Vijay as “the man who started it all for #Karuppu”, thanking him for his support and encouragement.
The remark drew criticism from a section of Suriya’s fans, who argued that the film’s promotions were giving disproportionate attention to Vijay despite Suriya being the face of the project and its biggest draw at the box office.
Karuppu editor adds on to the debate
The debate intensified after Karuppu editor R Kalaivanan was asked in an interview with SS Music how the film might have looked had Vijay starred in it. Responding to the question, he said it could have been “even more explosive” with scenes tailored to Vijay’s star image.
His comments triggered another round of backlash online. Kalaivanan later apologised on X, writing that his statement had been misunderstood and acknowledging that he should have chosen his words more carefully.
Although Suriya has not commented on the controversy, his latest Instagram post has become part of the wider conversation among fans.
Meanwhile, Karuppu continues its successful theatrical run. According to the film’s team, the action drama has grossed over Rs 300 crore worldwide, making it one of the biggest commercial successes of Suriya’s career in recent years.
