Andrew Garfield has started a Bugsy Malone covers band.
The 42-year-old actor, who showed off his singing talents in 2021 movie tick, tick… BOOM!, has revealed he’s still involved in music after putting together a group with some friends based on the tunes of the iconic 1976 musical.
He told E! News: “I do have a band, we do Bugsy Malone covers.
“Look out for The Shangles. Look out for a group of middle-aged guys doing Bugsy Malone covers.”
Andrew teased that the group are waiting to see “what happens out there” as he promised “some big plans” in the future.
He added: “But I can’t really say it until it’s official – I don’t want to jinx it.”
The Magic Faraway Tree star did point out that The Shangles aren’t focused on “any kind of commercial kind of success”.
He admitted: “It’s more of a passion project.”
Andrew, who turns 43 on Thursday (20.08.26), recently revealed he is opening for a quiet celebration after a busy time filming and promoting two films due for release this year, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Uprising.
Asked his dream day off, he told People magazine: “[There’d be] a lot of laying down and looking out my window. Not very active, yeah. I’m in need of some rest right now.”
And of his upcoming birthday, he added: “I’ll just do chill things and be with loved ones and eat good food. I think 43 will be a little chill.”
Meanwhile, Andrew – who has been romantically linked to his Artificial co-star Monica Barbaro – recently spoke of how he is determined to keep his relationships out of the spotlight.
Speaking to Vanity Fair magazine, he explained: “It feels like a violation of my inner world, my private world. I thought maybe that would soften at some point, but I’m very surprised to say that it hasn’t.”
