Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday gave a “Delhi Chalo” call, asking people, especially the youth, to join a march to the Supreme Court on Monday to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India. The move comes amid protests in Delhi over alleged suppression of demonstrations and alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls.

Gehlot alleged that the central government had turned Delhi into a fortress to curb peaceful protests by young people and said the Election Commission was a mute spectator to alleged large-scale vote theft. He said the opposition, under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, stood firmly against what he called a “dictatorial approach”.

In a post on X, Gehlot said, “Our young colleagues are struggling on the streets to protect democracy. The way the central government has turned Delhi into a fortress to suppress the peaceful voice of the youth, and the Election Commission remains a mute spectator on the issue of large-scale vote theft, is a major crisis facing the country.”

His call came as protests continued in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, with demands for his resignation over alleged irregularities linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Cockroach Janta Party and opposition parties have raised concerns over alleged wrongful deletion of voters and sought greater transparency in the revision process.

Opposition parties have announced a protest march to the Supreme Court on Monday. The Congress has named it “Chalo Delhi – March for Democracy” and said protesters would gather at the Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction at 1.30 pm. Leaders of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, had written to the Chief Justice of India seeking a meeting between 4 pm and 5 pm on Monday to hand over a memorandum. Their demands include an end to “vote chori”, the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, stopping the SIR and a return to paper ballot.

Sources said on Sunday that the Chief Justice of India had not agreed to meet the two Leaders of Opposition, though no further details were given. Gehlot said, “Tomorrow, we are going to take out an important march to submit a memorandum to the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India against this injustice.”

Appealing for participation, Gehlot said, “I appeal to all of you, particularly the youth, to ensure your participation in this struggle to save democracy and the Constitution.” His “Delhi Chalo” call sums up the opposition’s plan to march to the Supreme Court on Monday over their allegations on protests and the electoral roll revision process.
