Australian model and influencer Leah Ramsey has opened up about the “devastating” toll of losing her newborn daughter following a high-risk pregnancy, which led to her needing open-heart surgery.
The 35-year-old announced the death of her little girl in an emotional Instagram post last week, showing her and her husband cradling their daughter while sat side by side on a hospital bed.
The image was captioned: “The strongest little girl we will never get to know. You made it through infections and multiple surgeries, even when the odds were against you. But it just wasn’t your time.
“We are absolutely devastated. Rest peacefully. Love always, Mum, Dad and your big brother Reeves.”
On Tuesday, Ramsey thanked fans for their continuing support.
““Thank you to everyone who has messaged me, shared kind words, support, love, prayers, blessings and even your own stories,” she wrote.
“We were so hopeful that Rowe would survive and that somehow we would get our happy ending. She was with me through everything this year threw at us.
“There is nothing that can prepare you for giving birth and having the room completely silent.
“She was the most beautiful baby I have ever seen.”
Ramsey documented her agonising health journey while pregnant with her second baby.
The influencer’s extraordinary health battle began with what appeared to be a painful, swollen leg early on in her pregnancy, which turned out to be a blood clot needing emergency surgery to remove.
The surgery removed a far more dangerous underlying condition — an infection that had silently lived in her body for nearly a year that had travelled to her heart.
With both her life and her unborn babies life at stake, she underwent open-heart surgery in February.
The gruelling six-hour long procedure required her heart to be stopped entirely for 80 minutes., with doctors prioritising the mother’s survival while monitoring the health of her unborn baby.
Despite all that could go wrong, the surgery was deemed a success but sadly a few months later, baby Rowe passed away.

There has been an outpouring of love on social media for Ramsey and her family, with people honouring baby Rowe.
“So sorry for your loss. What a beautiful name for a strong girl, she will always be with you,” one person commented in support.
“Forever your baby girl,” another wrote.
