Australian cricket star Megan Schutt has been suspended for two matches for an issue relating to prescription medication.
Cricket Australia said the 33-year-old’s breach related to “a failure to adhere to requirements under the Sports Science and Sports Medicine guidelines” with regard to prescription medication.
According to CA, it was one-off incident and occurred while out of competition.
“It was not for performance-enhancing purposes,” CA stressed.
Schutt’s two-match ban will include international and domestic cricket.
The fast bowler will now be unavailable for the third and final T20 clash against New Zealand at North Sydney Oval on Thursday.
As well that match, the Adelaide Strikers veteran will miss her team’s opening game of the WBBL season against the Melbourne Stars on October 31.
“We will continue to provide appropriate support to Megan and reinforce the standards and responsibilities expected of everyone representing our game,” Cricket Australia said in a statement.
Schutt said she was sorry and should have known better.
“I fully accept the penalty handed down and apologise for failing to meet the standards expected of me,” Schutt said.
“I’m sorry for the attention this has caused and appreciate the support I’ve received.
“While this occurred out of competition and was not performance related, I understand that I am responsible for following the Sports Science and Sports Medicine Guidelines, which players receive regular education on, and I should have adhered to these guidelines.”
Schutt’s last game for Australia was in Brisbane against Bangladesh on October 14.
She starred with the ball in the one-dayer, taking 4/16 to win the Player of the Match medal.
