A Morley carpark identified as a hot spot for antisocial behaviour will receive CCTV and number plate recognition cameras after the City of Bayswater received more than $20,000 in funding.

The city was given $20,343 through the State Government’s CCTV funding program to install better security measures at Pat O’Hara carpark.

Once installed, footage from both the CCTV cameras and the number plate recognition cameras will be accessible to both the city and police.

The city nominated five locations after consulting with WA Police, with the State Government selecting the Pat O’Hara carpark.

The city said this location was selected because of a lack of existing CCTV and passive surveillance, along with ongoing reports of antisocial behaviour.

Other suggested locations included the Bayswater train station precinct on Whatley Crescent, Hamilton Street in Bayswater, the Bayswater Waves carpark, and Russell Street in Morley.

Bayswater mayor Filomena Piffaretti said the project would improve safety for people using the area.

“This technology will help improve visibility and community safety in the area, and support a co-ordinated response between the city’s community safety team and WA Police Force to reduce anti-social behaviour,” she said.

“The project forms part of the city’s ongoing commitment to creating safer public spaces for the local community.”

The State Government invited local governments to apply for a share of $1 million in CCTV funding. Thirty-five local governments took advantage of it.

The project is expected to be completed in January 2027.
