Cabarita Beach, NSW: Swimmer dies after being found in water, pulled to shore by surfers

A swimmer has died at one of Australia’s best beaches.

Surfers located a man’s body in the water at Cabarita Beach near Tweed Heads on Saturday around 12.30pm.

When NSW Police officers arrived, three members of the public were desperately trying to revive the swimmer, who is believed to be in his 50s.

Paramedics treated the man at the beach before he was taken to Tweed Valley Hospital, where he later died.

He has not yet been formally identified.

Cabarita Beach was voted Australia’s best beach in 2019 and 2020.

An investigation into the man’s death has been launched.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
