Actor Ajith’s mother Mohini Mani died in Chennai on Saturday morning at the age of 85. Her death comes nearly three years after the death of her husband P Subramaniam. The family said she died peacefully in her sleep after a period of declining health and added that her last rites would be held in private.

Following Mohini Mani’s death, Ajith’s family issued a statement that read, “It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Mrs. Mohini Mani, who left us peacefully today at the age of 85. She was the heart of our family, a source of unconditional love, quiet strength, wisdom, and grace. Her presence shaped our lives in countless ways, and the values she instilled in us will continue to guide us every day.”
The family also requested privacy as they mourned their loss. The statement, signed by her sons, Anup Kumar, Ajith Kumar and Anil Kumar, further read, “Her last rites will be a private family affair. We trust that all who have known the ache of losing a parent or a beloved elder will respect our wish to grieve quietly, honouring her memory with the same equanimity, dignity and gentle strength she showed us every single day of her life.”
The funeral is set to happen on Sunday, May 31.
Vijay and Trisha were among several members of the film fraternity, including actors Kamal Haasan, Radhika Sarathkumar and others, who reached out to support Ajith Kumar and his family following the loss of the family matriarch.
