A complaint has been filed with the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) against BJP state president Nainar Nagendran over his derogatory and defamatory remarks about Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and his mother during a public event in Tamil Nadu.
The complainant has sought the police to preserve digital evidence, investigate the remarks under relevant legal provisions, and initiate appropriate criminal proceedings for defamation and public misconduct.

The complaint comes amid a political row triggered by Nagendran’s remarks on Saturday at the BJP’s state headquarters, Kamalalayam, in Chennai where he took a swipe at Vijay over the chief minister’s earlier “kutti kathai” (short story) targeting DMK president MK Stalin.
Speaking at the party event, Nagendran mocked Vijay’s repeated references to “father” in the Assembly, saying that those wanting to know “where their father is” should ask their mother at home rather than look for the answer in the Assembly.
The complainant has described the BJP leader’s remarks about Vijay and his mother as derogatory and sought legal action against him. The complaint also urged the police to examine and seize the audio and video recordings of the event as part of the proceedings.
The controversy stems from Vijay’s earlier remarks in the Assembly following the DMK’s defeat in the April 2026 Assembly election.
The Tamil Nadu chief minister had narrated a “kutti kathai” that made a humorous reference to the whereabouts of Udhayanidhi Stalin’s father, in an apparent reference to the DMK president’s defeat in Kolathur.
Several political parties, including the DMK, had criticised Vijay’s remarks at the time. Responding to the chief minister’s taunt, the former chief minister had said he remained present in the hearts of the people despite not being in the legislature.
Nagendran’s latest remarks have also drawn criticism from within the BJP and the state government.
Tamil Nadu minister A Rajmohan described the comments as “uncivilised and inappropriate” and said Vijay had consistently asked his colleagues to maintain political decorum despite provocations and personal attacks.
Former BJP state president K Annamalai also criticised Nagendran’s remarks, saying they had crossed the limits of political civility.
Annamalai said questioning the government and engaging in political disagreements were legitimate aspects of democratic discourse, but personal attacks involving a leader’s family, particularly their mother, were unacceptable.
He described such remarks as a regressive and “third-rate” form of politics and said such conduct should not be encouraged among younger generations.
