A woman has been arrested while her lover remains absconding after the two reportedly conspired to kill an IIFL Finance branch manager in Gujarat’s Prantij. Police said the accused planned the murder to avoid repaying a combined loan of Rs 6 lakh and recover gold pledged against it.
The body of Bharat Chaudhary, branch manager of IIFL Finance’s Mansa branch, was found inside his car near Limla village in Prantij taluka two days ago. Police said Chaudhary had gone missing on September 2.

The Prantij police cracked the case within hours of intensifying their investigation based on technical evidence and call detail records. The probe led them to Bhavna alias Bhavu Thakor and her lover, Yogesh Thakor.
LOAN REPAYMENT LED TO MURDER PLOT
According to the police investigation, Bhavna had taken a loan of 1.50 lakh from IIFL Finance, while Yogesh had borrowed 4.50 lakh. Together, the two owed 6 lakh.
Police said the couple wanted to avoid paying the loan instalments and also recover the gold jewellery they had pledged against the loans. They therefore decided to kill Chaudhary, who was the branch manager.
The murder plan was set in motion when Bhavna called Chaudhary and asked him to come to Prantij on the pretext of giving him money.
Yogesh then picked up Chaudhary from Mansa in his car. When they reached Vadvasa, he attacked the manager inside the vehicle with a sharp-edged weapon, causing serious injuries to his neck and killing him.
After the murder, the accused planned to dispose of Chaudhary’s body and the car at an isolated location.
According to the police, they drove towards Limla for this purpose. However, while reversing the car, it became stuck in a ditch on the roadside. Unable to move the vehicle and fearing that they would be caught, the two abandoned both the car and Chaudhary’s body at the spot and fled.
Chaudhary’s body was subsequently found inside the vehicle on the road from Limla village towards Vadvasa. Police said his neck bore injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon.
POLICE SEARCH FOR ABSCONDING ACCUSED
During the investigation, police used technical evidence and call detail records to identify the suspected involvement of Bhavna and Yogesh.
Bhavna has been arrested in connection with the case, while Yogesh remains absconding. Police have formed separate teams to track him down.
Police also said the two accused had been in a relationship for seven years.
