The trailer of Daayra sets up a tense clash between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran as two police officers who find themselves on opposite sides of a case involving juvenile crime. Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the thriller explores the conflict between law, justice and accountability as the investigation into a controversial police encounter unfolds.
The film is set to release in cinemas on September 18.

Kareena plays DCP Ajooni Kohli, while Prithviraj plays DCP Raman Kumar. The trailer opens with the two officers taking different positions on a case involving a police encounter. As the investigation progresses, their approaches to duty and justice begin to clash.
The case takes a more serious turn when a family approaches the authorities for help in finding their missing daughter. During the investigation, details emerge about an accused person who had reportedly been active along the same route for two years.
The trailer also raises questions about the legal framework surrounding juvenile offenders. One of the central debates is whether juvenile protection laws should apply in cases involving minors accused of serious crimes such as rape and murder.
The disagreement between the two officers goes beyond the immediate case. They question each other’s understanding of procedure, accountability and the limits of their responsibilities as police officers.

Kareena said working with Meghna Gulzar pushed her to look at her character differently.
“What I loved about working with Meghna is that she makes you question everything you think you know about a character,” Kareena said. She added that playing Ajooni was a new experience for her and that working opposite Prithviraj was “a pleasure”.
Prithviraj said he was drawn to Raman because of the questions the character faces during the investigation.
“What drew me to DCP Raman Kumar was the complexity beneath his composed exterior and the questions he finds himself grappling with during the investigation,” he said.
He also praised the film for allowing viewers to form their own opinions rather than presenting a straightforward answer.
Meghna Gulzar on the grey areas of justice
According to Meghna Gulzar, Daayra does not present its characters or its central conflict in simple terms.
“Daayra doesn’t sit comfortably in black and white. It explores the grey and dismantles it,” the filmmaker said.
She added that the film examines the choices its characters make and leaves the audience to engage with the consequences.
Written by Yash Keswani, Sima Agarwal and Meghna Gulzar, Daayra is inspired by true events. The film explores how a major crime triggers public outrage and sets multiple investigations in motion.
The trailer also features Jitendra Joshi, Kshitee Jog, Kanwaljeet Singh, Sandeep Kulkarni and Trupti Khamkar in supporting roles.
Daayra is produced by Junglee Pictures and Dr Jayantilal Gada’s Pen Studios. It will be distributed by Pen Marudhar and released in cinemas on September 18.
