Just a month before her death, Mica had reportedly told police, “I’m afraid for my life.” The person at the centre of her allegations was her husband, John-Paul Miller, who was also the pastor of the church her family attended in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

One of six siblings, Mica grew up singing in church before finding her calling in music and ministry after her family settled in Myrtle Beach.
Her life took a significant turn when she was just 13 and first met John-Paul Miller, the pastor of Solid Rock Church, where her family had begun attending services. The three-part docuseries traces their relationship and the years that followed, piecing together their story through text messages, home videos, church footage and entries from Mica’s personal journals.
The series also features firsthand accounts from Mica’s siblings and close friends, offering insight into the relationship and the events they witnessed over the years.
Who is Mica Miller?
Long before her tragic death, Mica Miller was known to those closest to her for one thing in particular — her voice. Her brother, Nate Francis, recalls in the series, “My whole family is very musically talented, but Mica has the best voice. She loved singing.”
Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Mica moved to Myrtle Beach with her family, where music and faith became an important part of her life. She immersed herself in the local church community and began serving as a worship leader while she was still a teenager. 15 years her senior, JP eventually married Mica in 2017.
Those who knew Mica remember her as a confident and deeply faithful woman who brought warmth and energy to the people around her. Her love for music, strong connection to her faith and vibrant personality became defining parts of the life she built before her story took a tragic turn.
At 18, Mica married her first husband, Jeremy, in a ceremony officiated by John-Paul Miller, known as JP. She later began working as the pastor’s assistant. JP was 15 years older than Mica and, as her sister Sierra recalls in the series, held several positions of authority in her life, “her pastor, her mentor, her church leader.” A few years into Mica’s marriage to Jeremy, Sierra says JP began crossing those boundaries. He initially texted Mica to express his appreciation, but the messages gradually became “more romantic, and it kind of spiralled from there.”
