A gunfight broke out between Delhi Police and two alleged members of the notorious Tillu Tajpuriya gang near Karala village in outer Delhi, leaving both suspects injured after being shot in the legs during an encounter, officials said.

The encounter was carried out by a team of the Special Staff of Delhi Police’s Rohini district. According to police, the suspects opened fire on the team when they were intercepted, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.

Police said a total of six rounds were fired from both sides during the encounter. Both accused sustained bullet injuries to their legs and were overpowered by the police team.

The injured suspects have been identified as Rahul and Vishal, both allegedly associated with the Tillu Tajpuriya gang and believed to be involved in criminal activities linked to the outfit.

The latest operation comes amid Delhi Police’s continued crackdown on organised crime networks operating in the National Capital Region. Just two months ago, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested two alleged sharpshooters linked to the Tillu Tajpuriya gang and claimed to have foiled two planned gangland killings targeting members of the rival Gogi gang.

The arrested men in that case, identified as Jatin (24) and Vinay Maan alias Bittu (33), were allegedly plotting attacks as part of the long-running and violent rivalry between the Tillu and Gogi gangs.

The feud between the two criminal syndicates has been one of Delhi’s deadliest gang wars. Gogi gang chief Jitender Maan alias Gogi was shot dead inside Rohini Court in September 2021, while his rival Sunil Balyan alias Tillu Tajpuriya was murdered inside Tihar Jail in May 2023.

Despite the deaths of both gang leaders, investigators say their criminal networks continue to operate through associates and shooters, fuelling extortion, land-grabbing and targeted attacks across Delhi and neighbouring areas of Haryana.

Police are questioning the injured suspects and investigating whether they were planning any major criminal operation.
