Delhi has crossed its average rainfall for August within the first eight days of the month, with the Safdarjung Observatory recording a cumulative 230.1 mm of rain so far. The India Meteorological Department said the mean total rainfall for August in Delhi, based on the 1991-2020 climatological period, is 226.8 mm.
The city also recorded its wettest August day in two years on Saturday, as Safdarjung received 98.7 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am. The last time Delhi recorded more rain on an August day was on August 1, 2024, when 107.6 mm was recorded. The capital has now been witnessing rain for the fourth consecutive day.

Safdarjung, the city’s main observatory, had recorded 225.7 mm of rainfall from the start of the month till 8.30 am on Saturday. Another 4.4 mm was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, taking the total to 230.1 mm.
Among other weather stations, Palam recorded 104.6 mm of rainfall, Ayanagar 115 mm, Ridge 89.8 mm and Lodhi Road 86.8 mm in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, apart from 98.7 mm at Safdarjung. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall at 16 mm, followed by Ridge at 9.4 mm and Lodhi Road at 6.5 mm, while Safdarjung and Palam recorded 4.4 mm each.
The IMD said light to very light rain is likely at some places in Delhi over the next two days. With 230.1 mm of rainfall already recorded at Safdarjung, the city has moved past its average rainfall for the whole of August in just the first eight days of the month.
