Mumbai: Television actor Anuj Thakur, whom viewers remember from Dhoom Machao Dhoom and Mahisagar, passed away at his Mumbai home on October 27. He was 33. His close friend and casting director Rupesh Sonar had seen him just 10 days earlier. Anuj, he said, had been thinking about returning to television.
Rupesh Sonar recalls the morning Anuj passed away
Speaking to The Times of India, Rupesh said Anuj usually woke up at 4.30 am to go for a jog. On October 27, his alarm rang at the usual time. When his mother went to wake him, she found that he had passed away in his sleep.
Rupesh said he called Anuj’s brother after hearing the news, but his brother could barely speak. It was only when Rupesh visited the family that he learned from them that Anuj had suffered a seizure.
A friendship that began on television
Rupesh and Anuj first worked together in 2008 on Bandhan Saath Janmon Ka. They went on to collaborate again on Beend Banoonga Ghodi Chadhunga. In a tribute he shared on Instagram on October 30, Rupesh recalled the struggles he had seen Anuj face early in his career and the projects the two still hoped to do together.
“You will always be remembered, brother. Rest in peace,” Rupesh wrote.
