Four teens were motivated by rivalry between two western Sydney youth gangs when they allegedly stabbed and killed one man and wounded another at a suburban bus stop in broad daylight, a court has heard.

The NSW Supreme Court was told the attack lasted just 13 seconds and allegedly began when the four youths, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, piled off a bus in the western Sydney suburb of Doonside about 3.30pm on April 12, 2024, where a group of people including the alleged victims were waiting.

Iyzaa Naden, 18, of Doonside, suffered three stab wounds and died a short time later in hospital. His brother Jaryea Naden, 19, was also stabbed in the alleged attack.

The court heard the four were associated with the gang RFA, also known as Ready For Anything and based in the nearby suburb of Mt Druitt, while Izyaa was associated with rival gang 67, which gets its name from the last two digits of Doonside’s postcode 2767.

The four accused have all pleaded not guilty to murdering Izyaa. Three of them have also been charged with wounding Jaryea with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They have also pleaded not guilty to that offence.

In her opening address to the jury, Crown Prosecutor Sally Traynor said as the accused known as DD was armed with a knife when he got off the bus and he was heard to say “RFA motherf**kers”. Other witnesses are expected to tell the court they heard one of the accused ask “are you 67?”.

The jury was shown CCTV footage of the incident captured from inside and outside the bus, dashcam footage from other vehicles and security cameras from nearby properties.

In the footage, the four are seen sitting at the back of the bus with DD running down the aisle as the bus slows down to stop. The three other accused known as JS, JD and RL follow him off the bus.

Ms Traynor told the court there would be evidence that Izyaa had been having issues with members of RFA. His Snapchat handle ended in 67 and he had about two years earlier got the number 67 tattooed on to his hand.

She said it was the Crown’s case that the alleged murder was neither planned or premeditated.

“This was an attack by the group of the four young persons on the deceased that was motivated by their belief that the deceased was associated with the gang 6 7,” she said.

The court is expected to hear evidence about the rivalry between the two gangs and another known as OPK, which derives its name from a police Operation Kella.

At the time of the alleged attack, Izyaa is holding a golf club given to him by his father who had found it just a short time earlier, the court heard.

After being stabbed the deceased swung the golf club over his right shoulder at DD, who allegedly stabbed him again.

The court heard Jaryea was allegedly stabbed as he came to his brother’s aid by JS.
