A 30-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his father following an argument over cooking mutton during the ongoing Shravan month in Pune’s Warje-Malwadi area. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh Bhagwat Gaikwad (30).
His father, Bhagwat Suryabhan Gaikwad (64), and mother, Parvati Bhagwat Gaikwad (60), have been arrested by the Warje-Malwadi police.
According to police, Mahesh had been married for around 10 years but was addicted to alcohol and was not employed. His wife had left him with their two children, and the couple had recently been divorced.

Mahesh lived alone and would usually have meals at his parents’ house nearby.
Police said Mahesh returned home drunk on the night of August 25 and insisted that his parents prepare a mutton curry for him.
As the family was not cooking non-vegetarian food during Shravan, his parents refused.
An argument followed and allegedly escalated into a physical assault. During the altercation, Mahesh’s father repeatedly struck him on the face and head, causing fatal injuries.
Police said Mahesh’s mother, who works as a nurse at a nursing home, attempted to protect her husband after the incident. She reporcleaned blood stains from the spot in an attempt to destroy evidence and allegedly gave false information to Mahesh’s elder brother.
Mahesh’s elder brother, who works as a painter, later approached the Warje-Malwadi police and lodged a complaint.
Police registered a murder case and arrested the father for allegedly killing Mahesh and the mother for allegedly helping destroy evidence.
