Spain sensed a goal, but they couldn’t find the back of the net before the whistle is blown for half-time.

Lamine Yamal had an opportunity in added time, but he misses out wide and the flag goes up anyway as he’s ruled offside.

This match is very tight. It feels like we might be here for the long haul…and by long haul, I mean extra time and penalty shootout.

Portugal 0-0 Spain, half-time

Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon is put to work, saving an amazing goal to deny Cristiano Ronaldo adding to his golden boot tally.

The missed opportunity aside, Ronaldo is a little way off our golden boot leaders at the top of the tally. A reminder of whom those are:

  1. Kylian Mbappe (7)
  2. Lionel Messi (7)
  3. Erling Haaland (7)
  4. Harry Kane (6)
  5. Ousmane Dembele (4)

Portugal 0-0Spain, 40 minutes

Cristiano Ronaldo has struck in the 12th minute for Portugal, getting a shot off with his right foot which is saved by Unai Simon who concedes a corner.

Otherwise it’s been fairly even between each side until the first drinks break. If either look slightly more dominant, it’s Spain who also have slightly more of the ball, with 58 per cent of possession and three shots on goal to Portugal’s one.

Portugal 0-0 Spain, 23 minutes

The match is under way in Dallas as Spain get the first shot on target in the third minute from Mikel Oyarzabal from outside the box, it’s saved by Diogo Costa.

Lamine Yamal, the star 18-year-old for Spain was also in action early, but for a foul on Joao Neves instead of any action in front of the goal.

Portugal get their first attempt in the seventh from Joao Cancelo, but his shot soars above the goal.

Spain have named an unchanged side for today’s match against Portugal, while Roberto Martinez made one change by bringing in Joao Felix for Rafael Leao in attack.

• Luis de la Fuente keeps faith with the Spain team who beat Austria in the round of 32.

• Pedro Porro remains at right back, with Dani Olmo in the playmaker role.

• Joao Felix starts alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Pedro Neto, with Leao on the bench.

• Ronaldo captains Portugal after saying this will be his last World Cup.
