Four Kanwariyas feared drowned while bathing in Ganga at UP’s Farrukhabad

Four Kanwariyas from Shahjahanpur are feared to have drowned while taking a bath in the Ganga at Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad on Monday. Despite a search operation lasting several hours, the four youths could not be traced.

The incident occurred at around 10 am when the Kanwariyas entered the river to take a bath. According to the information available, they ventured into deep water and were swept away by the strong current.

The four youths have been identified as Kamal Saxena and Yogesh Saxena from Sahukar village under Khudaganj police station, Vikas Saxena, and Arjun Kashyap, a resident of Mohalla Anuman Garhi in Shahjahanpur district.

The group had travelled by motorcycle to Panchal Ghat as part of their Kanwar pilgrimage. They were scheduled to collect Ganga water and proceed towards Gola Gokarannath.

People present at the spot attempted to rescue the youths but could not save them. Police were informed following the incident, after which local police personnel, divers and a steamer reached the spot and launched a search operation.

An NDRF team also joined the rescue effort. Teams have been conducting an extensive search in the river, but the four youths remained untraced even after several hours.

The search operation is continuing, with police and rescue teams looking for the missing Kanwariyas. The incident has also raised concerns over safety arrangements for devotees during the Kanwar pilgrimage.
