Gadag: Assistant Executive Engineer Parvez Dharwad of the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), who had been missing since September 13, has been traced in Mumbai by Gadag police, Maharashtra. The engineer was found after 40 days of search efforts and is scheduled to be brought back to Gadag on October 24 for questioning.
Parvez’s disappearance had raised concerns after he reportedly left behind a note referring to a shortage of government funds, delayed payments for work, and pressure from subcontractors. His family, which had been anxious about his whereabouts, can now breathe a sigh of relief following his recovery.
The engineer had reportedly told his family that he was travelling to Bengaluru to attend an official meeting. However, he did not return or respond to attempts to contact him. On September 16, his family approached Betageri police station in Gadag and lodged a missing-person complaint.
In the note reportedly left on his office desk, Parvez stated that government grants had not been released and payments for completed works remained pending. He also alleged that subcontractors were visiting his home and office and causing him mental distress over the outstanding amounts.
Following the complaint, Gadag police formed five special teams under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Mithun H.N. to locate the engineer.
Investigators initially obtained a mobile network location indicating that Parvez had been in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. However, he subsequently switched off his mobile phone, leaving the police without further network-based leads.
The search later focused on Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh after CCTV footage from the railway station reportedly showed him there. Despite examining the footage and pursuing the lead, police could not find him at that stage.
The investigation continued across multiple locations, eventually leading the police to Mumbai, where Parvez was traced on October 23.
Police are expected to bring him to Gadag the following day and question him to determine why he disappeared and where he had stayed during the intervening period. Investigators will also examine the claims made in the note regarding delayed payments and alleged pressure from subcontractors.
While the engineer’s recovery has ended the immediate uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts, the reasons for his disappearance remain to be established through questioning. Police are expected to gather details about his movements and verify the circumstances mentioned in his note.
The case has drawn attention to the financial and administrative difficulties reportedly cited by the engineer, but the allegations remain subject to investigation.
